She had never seen the ocean
Living so far away
Hoped she'd make lots of money
So she could go see it some day
He'd told her it wouldn't happen
She didn't like him
He'd made her feel so worthless
And made sure she'd never swim
Her mommy he had married
Not liking her at all
Saying she could no longer go out
Trapped in her room since last fall
Not knowing what would happen
If she didn't obey
She did not dare to run away
Guessing what he would say
Going to school he would allow her
Made her feel so free
Borrowing new books every day
Reading about things she couldn't see
Her favourite was about dolphins
Out at the open sea
Swimming and playing with waves
Something she'd been wanting to see
Not being able to swim among them
Looking at her feet
After she'd fallen down the stairs
Even her heart had stopped to beat
He had been so angry that day
Hitting her hard
She had lost her balance and fell
Broke her back, made her a retard
Saying she was the only to blame
Accident they said
She would never be able to walk again
And hardly managing to get out of bed
She was laying peacefully in her bed
Dreaming
Holding her favourite book in her hand
Wishing she was sleeping in the sea
Then, like the dolphins, she would be free
